Press Release: Calling All Teens! Ready For Some Fun Summer Reading?

Posted by on 4 July 2012

VICTORIA - Be the first to read ebooks before they hit online bookstores and libraries. The Greater Victoria Public Library and Orca Book Publishers are partnering to bring teens exclusive sneak preview access to ebooks.

The Teen Summer Sneak Preview program offers access to digital advance reading copies (ARCs) of Orca’s Fall young adult novels. From June 15th to September 15th, local teens can access this exclusive early content. The digital ARCS can be downloaded onto ereaders, tablets or smartphones, or they can be read online. Books will be loaded onto the site throughout the summer as they become available. Victoria teens will be some of the first readers of titles such as ghost story Shallow Grave by local author Alex Van Tol, and the eagerly anticipated Seven series.

The Teen Summer Sneak Preview Program builds on the success of the Greater Victoria Public Library’s popular Advance Reading Copy Club. Orca is donating the content using their digital subscription platform for schools and public libraries. In their joint effort to engage teens in reading, GVPL and Orca also hope to learn what teens think about ebooks. As an additional incentive, teens who submit reviews or complete a survey will be entered to win weekly draws for print books that they can keep forever.

“We are excited to be able to offer teen readers in the Greater Victoria area access to new books before they are published in print format,” said Andrew Wooldridge, publisher at Victoria’s Orca Book Publishers. “As more and more people take to reading electronically, it is a wonderful time to be able to provide early access to new books in this way. GVPL is at the forefront with innovations in access to digital content, and we are happy to be working with them.”

“When publishers and libraries work together to provide something new and exciting, it’s a transformative experience!” said GVPL CEO Maureen Sawa. “We’re extremely pleased to be partnering with local publisher Orca to provide this Summer Sneak Preview program to GVPL’s teen patrons. We are looking forward to future collaborations as the world of epublishing continues to evolve.”
