My account

My password isn’t working.

The default password/PIN to your Library account is the last four(4) digits of the phone number used to register your account.  We suggest you reset your password once you access your account to protect your privacy. Click Help for how to reset your Library account password/PIN.  If you have any issues or questions please contact us at 250-940-GVPL (4875).

How do I enter my barcode number to log-in?

Enter your barcode as one continuous number without the spaces.

The site won’t remember my log-in information and I have to re-enter it every time.

Please check your browser’s settings to insure that the password autofill option is enabled. The settings will be different depending on which browser you use (IE, Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome etc).  Enabling this option will eliminate the need to continually re-enter log-in and password information. To get instructions for enabling autofill on your browser try a Google search using your browser name and ‘autofill’ as search terms.

I get a ‘Privilege has expired’ message and cannot place holds or renew items signed out.

GVPL library cards must be renewed every three years. To renew please bring identification with your current address in to any of our branches. Staff are happy to arrange  a temporary extension to allow you to renew items and place holds until you are able to visit. Please call Customer Service at 250 940-GVPL (4875) during library hours.

I would like my account to open on my holds or checkouts page not my personal information.

To change the default display go to the Personal Information tab, choose Preferences and use the Default My Account dropdown to select the page you would like to see when accessing your account.

Where is my reading history?

Reading History is now called ‘Checkout History’ and is accessed by clicking the bar at the bottom of your account Checkouts page.

Why is my place on the holds list showing as 0?

Holds placed on ‘on order’ items will show your place in queue as 0. The hold queue is in place and holds will be filled in the correct order.

Why can’t I see when my holds items are ‘in transit’ so I know they will arrive soon?

This information has been requested as a software enhancement from our new vendor. There is no timeline for changes of this kind.

I tried to log-in and got an error message.

The system is occasionally and briefly unavailable for system maintenance. Please wait for a few minutes and try again. We try to provide advance notice for planned maintenance but this isn’t always possible.

I’m not getting my email notifications.

Our email notifications are sent from: enotices@gvpl.ca. If you set filters in your email system to high security our e-mail address may appear as “spam”. To fix this, try entering gvpl.ca as a domain you’re willing to accept e-mail from.

eBooks and eAudiobooks

I am unable to download my 3M eBook/I get an error message from Overdrive.

Username/PIN access to your account when checking out ebook content is not currently working and will result in either an Overdrive error message or 3M titles checked out but not downloading. Until this and other issues are resolved we recommend patrons log in with their account barcode to the catalogue or go directly to the Overdrive or 3M Cloud Library app to access eBooks and eAudiobooks.
