100 books to read before kindergarten

Experts say children need to hear at least 1,000 stories before they start to read. Reading together helps develop language, imagination, and a love of learning. GVPL librarians have selected 100 picture books that entertain, educate, and inspire. Use this list to find engaging stories, build reading routines, and create meaningful learning moments with your children.

Yoto players and stories

Enjoy stories without screens. Yoto players and story cards make it easy for kids to listen, follow along, and imagine. Borrow just the story cards from our catalogue, or request a Yoto player at any branch.

BC Summer Reading Club

BC Summer Reading Club is a self-paced service that encourages kids 14 years old and younger to read throughout the summer. Every summer (June to September) thousands of kids join to build literacy and win prizes!

Family Picks To-Go Kit

Spend time together with a themed kit filled with books to help you explore topics as a family. Some are about hobbies like gardening or camping. Others are about heavier topics like coping with the death of a loved one.

Library Techplay toys

TechPlay educational toys introduce children to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through fun, hands-on learning experiences. Whether designing a new circuit or coding a game, TechPlay empowers children to become active creators in the digital world, preparing them for the future.
