Borrowing digital collections

Your library card gives you free access to more than 30 digital resources. Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, and more from your own device.

Some of these collections are available as part of our catalogue. But others can only be accessed on their website or app. You’ll need to use special links to access these websites and apps so that they know you are a GVPL library user.

Find the special links in our digital library directory.

Compatible devices for digital collections

Most smartphones, tablets, and many e-readers work with our digital resources. Because apps and software can change, some devices may not be compatible or need updates.

Tutorials and support

If you are new to digital borrowing, our online tutorials are a great place to start. Find the online tutorial for the platform or collection you want to use. Each video goes through how to download apps, sign in, and borrow digital collections.

If you still need help, contact us or visit any branch. Staff can help answer questions and troubleshoot common issues.

Using library equipment

Each GVPL branch is equipped with technology to support your library visit and everyday digital needs.

In-branch library technology

Each branch is equipped with public computers, self-serve checkout stations, printers, and other services. Our staff can help you learn to use these independently. You will need a library card to use library equipment.

Free Wi-Fi is also available at all GVPL branches. You can connect using your own phone, tablet, or laptop while visiting the library. Because Wi-Fi networks are public, be careful when sharing personal information online or clicking unfamiliar links.

Everyday technology help

If you are unfamiliar with computers or online services, our staff can help you get started. No appointment is needed. We can help with things like:

  • Connecting to the internet
  • Printing and photocopying
  • Using our digital library
  • Resetting your library password

Assistive technology and accessible equipment

We want library technology to work for as many people as possible. Every GVPL branch includes assistive equipment and adaptive technology, such as:

Adaptive computers

Each branch has at least one adaptive computer workstation. These stations may include:

  • Height-adjustable desks
  • Large-print keyboards
  • Ergonomic mouse

If you are unsure what equipment is available at a branch, our staff can try to help you find the right setup for your needs.

Accessible digital collections

Many of our digital library resources include built-in accessibility features. For example, Libby, by Overdrive offers adjustable text size and screen reader support.

For more information about accessible collections, services, and supports, visit our accessibility page, find services for people with disabilities page, or speak with staff at any branch.
