Victoria, B.C. – The Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) is pleased to announce the leadership of its 2026 Board of Trustees.
GVPL’s 19-member Board of Trustees, comprised of elected officials from partner municipalities and appointed citizen representatives, held its first regular meeting of the year on January 27. At that meeting, Councillor Duncan Cavens of the Township of Esquimalt was elected Chair, and Nik White, a citizen representative for the District of Saanich, was elected Vice-Chair.
“Public libraries are essential community spaces that support learning, connection, and opportunity for people at every stage of life,” said Councillor Duncan Cavens, Chair of the GVPL Board of Trustees. “As Chair, I look forward to working with my fellow trustees, library leadership, and staff to ensure GVPL continues to respond to community needs and remains accessible, welcoming, and relevant.”
Trustees serve two-year terms, with a maximum of four consecutive terms (eight years). The Board provides strategic direction and policy oversight in support of GVPL’s service to more than 380,000 residents in Greater Victoria.
