Discover outstanding fiction, poetry, and children’s literature from some of the region’s most celebrated writers and storytellers.
The contest is open to library cardholders ages 13 and older. To enter, pick up a ballot at any GVPL branch between November 2 at 10 am and November 13 at 6 pm. Please limit entries to one per person.
One lucky winner will be selected by random draw on Tuesday, November 17.
Prize Draw Contest Rules
- To enter the Victoria Book Prizes Book Bundle prize draw, individuals must fill out a prize draw ballot and submit it to the ballot box.
- Ballots submitted become the property of GVPL and will be destroyed after the contest closes.
- Number of Entries. One (1) per person at each branch. Photocopied ballots will not be counted.
- Program Entry Period. Ballots can be submitted from 10:00 am on November 2 to 6:00 pm on November 13.
- The chances of winning a prize depend on the number of eligible entries received.
- The winners will be randomly drawn from the ballots submitted during the program entry period. Winners will be selected in proportion to the number of prizes. The prizes are: One (1) “Book Bundle” consisting of one (1) print copy each of the nine (9) shortlisted titles for the 2026 Victoria Book Prizes : Compulsory Figures by John Barton, Frayed Linens by Marilyn Bowering, Encrypted by Arleen Paré, Amaranthine Chevrolet by Dennis E. Bolen, The Cree Word for Love: Sâkihitowin by Tracy Lindberg, Give Us this Day by Terence Young, This Plant is Not Boring illustrated by Mike Deas, Howler Reef by Mike Deas and Nancy Deas, and The Sunshine Project by Uma Krishnaswami.
- If a prize winner is not eligible or cannot be contacted after 15 days and two contact attempts, GVPL has the right to qualify another participant, and GVPL is released from any liability or responsibility in this regard.
- By submitting a ballot, each participant agrees to accept and abide by these rules.
- By submitting a ballot, each participant agrees that GVPL and its trustees, officers, employees, agents, and assignees are not liable or responsible for any loss, damage, or injury arising out of or in connection with the prizes awarded.
- By entering the prize draw, participants and winners consent to the use of their personal information for the purposes of administering the program and notifying the winners, unless permission is granted to receive additional information from GVPL.
- By claiming a prize, the winner consents to the use of their name and/or likeness and/or voice/photograph and city of residence without compensation for promotion and/or advertising purposes, in any manner and in any medium which GVPL considers appropriate.
- Claiming Prizes. All prizes must be claimed within 15 days of notification. After 15 days, prizes become the property of GVPL, and GVPL is released from any liability or responsibility in this regard.
- GVPL reserves the right to make substitutions of equivalent kind or approximate value in the event of the unavailability of any prize or component of any prize for any reason.
- GVPL reserves the right to withdraw or terminate the prize draw at any time without prior notice.
- These rules are available upon request from GVPL.
- The prize draw is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
